Very wavy crack surface may indicate existence of many micro-cracks by cyclic combustion heating and CWQT. But no clear crack was observed before bending test. This is suggesting SiC/SiC by original NITEprocess also has excellent thermal shock resistance. DEMO-NITE SiC was quite different from SiC/SiC composites and CWQT from 1500 C introduced cracks from the first quenching into water.
